NEWS FROM THE FAMILY LIFE COORDINATOR

Sunday School for all ages starts on September 8

Sunday School for ages 3 through adult will start on September 8 at 8:15am. A nursery is available for children under age 3.  We are excited to use the new Enduring Faith curriculum which brings together Biblical knowledge with life application for all ages. This means our whole congregation will be studying the same lesson, which should spark some interesting discussion at home.

The children will be singing a few of their VBS songs during worship on September 8. We will practice that morning during the Sunday School opening.

Rally Day Potluck

The congregation is invited to share in a potluck celebrating the start of Sunday School.  It will take place on Sept. 8 following worship. Please bring food to share, and plan to enjoy a time of fellowship together.

We still have a few spots to fill for teaching!  We need the following teachers and helpers:

·         Preschool (1)

·         Preschool helper (2)

·         Jr. & Sr. High – 7th-12th grade (1)

If you’re willing to help out, please sign up on the table in the Narthex, or talk to me about which class might be a good fit for your skills.

Sunday School Teachers’ meeting on August 28
Sunday School teachers will meet at 6pm on the evening of August 28 at the church.  We will go over the new Sunday School curriculum, distribute materials, and answer questions.  This is also a good time to coordinate with your team teacher to determine how you wish to split up responsibilities.

The Tech-Wise Family
We will be using Andy Crouch’s book, “The Tech-Wise Family”, for both the young families Bible study and the Wednesday evening (7pm) adult Bible study.  This book discusses some everyday steps to help put technology in its proper place. I would encourage all adults to plan to participate in one of these book discussions if possible.  More information will be posted soon.

Upcoming Dates
Aug. 28 – Sunday School Teachers’ Meeting

Sept. 8 – Rally Day, Sunday School begins; Congregation Potluck

Sept. 11 – Adult Bible Study

BUILDING HEALTHY FAMILIES James 1:27 says, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” How can you show love to those in your community? BUILDING HEALTHY FAMILIES Has your family ever taken a “vacation” from technology? For one day, try challenging your family to no electronics. No computers, TV, or phones. Instead, try reading a good book, playing a board game, swimming, or taking a walk. Then, at the end of the day, reflect on the difference. It will be an interesting learning experience for all involved! Lutheran Family Service (Quad Cities Area 563-359-0696 or www.lutheranfamilyservice.org)
